"Larry Ladd, special projects director for CFC, said the Food Connection board did not want to use money from the food account for the building. The shoe boxes are a way to collect for the building fund through tax-deductible donations while raising awareness about CFC.
The shoe box campaign is the first phase of the fundraising effort. The initial goal is to raise around $3,000. The second phase will involve corporate donations. The building fund will need close to $20,000 to cover the move, including new equipment, computer and a doubling of the rent currently being paid.
Ladd said all money donated to CFC goes toward client services.
To contribute, send a donation to Community Food Connection of Blount County, P.O. Box 786, Alcoa, TN 37701. Designate it for the building fund."
